Hannah Atkinson

State-Licensed Master Falconer
& Federal "Falconry School" Permit Holder

Hannah has worked hands-on with raptors since 2014. She oversees the Eyes in the Sky raptor education program at Santa Barbara Audubon Society, which reaches tens of thousands of local children and adults each year.

As a falconer, Hannah has hunted with trained hawks since 2015. She has trained in falconry-based pest abatement, directing trained raptors to haze nuisance birds such as gulls, crows, and pigeons.

Hannah is now a proud member of IAATE and sits on the Enrichment and Education Committees. She is dedicated to promoting choice-based, least-intrusive training methods for birds of prey in human care.

In 2023, Hannah founded Hawkhouse Falconry to spend more of her time in education and advocacy.

Bones

Harris's Hawk

Bones hatched in 2020 and was trained as an educational ambassador bird. The "wolves of the sky," Harris's hawks are uncommonly social and cooperative in the wild, and have become a favored bird of falconers and educators worldwide. Bones is a young male bird with a bright, curious personality.
