What to Expect

We're located about 15 minutes northwest of Ithaca, NY, near the village of Trumansburg. All roads are paved, though our gravel driveway can become slippery in winter and muddy in spring. You will be able to park about 50 feet from the hawk barn and trailhead. Please be prepared to walk over grassy, uneven ground. Seating is available for any who prefer to sit.

Hawk Walks take place on our private trail; we offer an approximately 1/4-mile loop and a 1/2-mile loop. The trail can become muddy and uneven, so please bring your hiking shoes! In most outings, we spend about 15 minutes at the hawk barn, then 10 to 30 minutes walking the trail. As we walk, a hawk will swoop between trees and perches. He'll receive treats of raw chicken, quail, and mouse meat.

Our education permits do not allow for the public to touch or hold these wild birds. Instead, there will be ample photo opportunities with a hawk flying along at your side.

These birds are easily frightened by dogs, so we ask that pets do not join us on the trail. If you need to be accompanied by a service animal, please let us know. We will do our best to accommodate the needs of all visitors and all levels of ability.

What We Teach

We practice "choice-based" training. Our birds are trained with an emphasis on positive reinforcement, environmental enrichment, and opportunities to practice their natural hunting behaviors. Every interaction is a fun problem-solving session for these intelligent, confident birds.

Our priority is to promote the conservation of native wildlife. We'll discuss local raptor species, including where and how to spot hawks, falcons, and owls. What rare raptors can you find in your own backyard? What threats do they face, and what can homeowners do to help?

For those who want to get involved, we'll discuss careers and volunteer opportunities in animal care. We will cover the falconry apprenticeship system, career tracks, licensing, and recommendations for interested people of all ages.

Cancellation Policy

You are welcome to reschedule or cancel your booking for any reason, but please provide 24 hours' notice. Late cancellations will incur a flat $50 cancellation fee.

Our New York weather can be unpredictable. If your booking is affected by high wind, heavy rain, or excessive heat, we are happy to reschedule at no charge.

Occasionally, we may ask to reschedule your experience for the birds' comfort. We fly our birds with a high degree of freedom in a wild environment; if a bird isn't set up for success by health, stress, or environmental conditions, we err on the side of caution. We want everyone involved—humans and birds—to have the best experience possible.

Thank you!
